Today was supposed to be our day to stay home and not go anywhere. Chores were mostly caught up and I was looking forward to a nice day of crafting and writing and gardening, while the DH worked on his own hobby of cutting bottles. I was to meet up online with my co-writer at 3PM, and I had a turkey I wanted to get in the oven before that. (Yes, turkey. In the summer. We got an especially good buy at Easter on both turkey and ham. We had the ham, so the turkey's been in the freezer waiting for me to have time to cook it.) Long story behind the cut:
HOWEVER, yesterday he decided to go to Sand Springs (about 50 miles from here) to see about an offer to get a new vehicle. His own is out of warranty, and has been showing signs of having electrical problems like it had a couple of years ago which were only resolved with much drama. He didn't really think anything would come of it, as our credit rating stinks, but he thought it would be worth it to try in order to have a vehicle under warranty. Well, he was actually successful, and came home with a silver Chevy Malibu. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles his Sonata had, but it has a few his didn't, it gets decent mileage, though not quite as good as his hybrid. The payment is close to the payment on his Sonata. He told me, "But you have to come with me tomorrow because they need you to sign and few things, and we have to bring some other paperwork they forgot to tell us about."
It was supposed to be and hour's drive over, sign a few things, eat some sandwiches I had brought for lunch and then head back. First of all, we got a late start, as the DH couldn't find his glasses. They finally turned up, so we got on the road. Just outside of Drumright traffic slowed to a crawl; there were probably a good thirty cars lined up behind an oversized load. VERY oversized; it had two escort trucks and a police car in front of the truck, and two more escort trucks behind it. We drove all the way to Mannford (a matter of about 24 miles at between 5 and 10 miles an hour.
Finally we got to the dealership. The young lady from whom the DH had bought the car was very nice, as was the financial officer. But seemingly we still didn't have all the paperwork--they should have told us to bring three months of bank statements instead of just the most recent one. We thought I could go online and print them out there, and wasted some time with me trying to get into our bank account (I recently had to change our username and password, and for the life of me, could not recall the new one, though I thought I knew it.) Finally we got on the way home. We did not get back to the house until about 2:45, and I hustled to get the turkey in the oven, while the DH had to turn around and go BACK with the other two bank statements!
Meanwhile, I got online with
kgreen20 about 15 minutes late, and we did manage to work productively for about an hour until she had to go. I got off the computer and prepped the side dishes for supper: one of our white zucchini from the garden, sliced up for baking with a little butter, and the last of our sweet potatoes from last year's garden, mashed with a little butter and cinnamon. Since we don't have quite enough green beans yet from the garden for a meal (probably by the end of the week) I just opened a can of them to go with everything else.
Then I sat down to rest a little until the DH got home, which he did about 6PM. Supper was great, and we now have a new car, under warranty. So I guess it was a good day after all--but I am really, really tired, and so is he.
And tomorrow we have errands in Stillwater. And Friday, I work. At least I am off on Saturday (my birthday)!
