Why all the good stuff got left out of the Red Book...
labourslamp and I had a rather lengthy IM conversation the other evening, in which we discussed why all of the adventures that must have taken place in Rivendell and Hollin got left out of the Red Book. We finally came to the conclusion that if Frodo had put all that in, just the first part of FotR before they got to Moria would be as long as all of the trilogy put together.
