I am sure that from time to time he would have had nightmares, about trolls and goblins and giant spiders and Smaug. And Gollum.

In fact, it's my idea that as the Ring awakened, he would have been tormented by memories of the Ring's last owner, Gollum.

Poor Bilbo, I'm sure he's right and his nightmare was because of his uncle's book. I enjoyed this interlude with Bilbo.
