Shoot the core!
I am totally addicted to Shmups: vertical or horizontal scrolling space shooters...and a few that are based more in fantasy or psychedelia. I've got literally hundreds of the things lying around, primarily in ROMs for various systems, and a boatload for arcade (usually the best IMHO). I just beat one called Gekirindan and I started playing Dangun Feveron which is this insane one with a disco soundtrack...and yes, I found Truxton II. I've always been a fan of this style of game, even since the forebears like Defender and Xevious and the rest, let's not forget Space Invaders. I'm really looking forward to blasting my way through Armed Police Batrider, Raiden Fighters Jet, Cotton Boomerang and so many more.
Happiness is I, is happiness. Few games have that coin-dropping, insane arcade nostalgia that these do. The best site on these that I've seen is http://www.classicgaming.com/shmups/ with a boatload of reviews, articles, some nice forums, and lots of screenshots, etc. Apparently there is a thriving shmup community and always has been...who knew?
