We Are Afraid Of What Is Already True

Dear Health Care Protesters,

I know you fear health care rationing, bureaucrats between you and your doctor, and lacking choice and competition in the health care market. But private insurance has already made those fears come true.

Our health care is already rationed private insurance. If we have coverage, they cover our medical bills only up to a preset dollar amount. They charge copays and deductibles that take money out of our pocket each time we need a doctor. Private insurance retroactively strips us of coverage for the smallest inconsistency in our medical history. They spend billions on overhead to find out if we are currently or could potentitally become sick, so they can protect their bottom line by denying us coverage.

Bureaucrats of private insurance companies are already between us and our doctors. They dictate the length of our hospital stays. They dictate which doctors we can see. They dictate which procedures we are allowed to have. They dictate what types of medicine we can take.

We already lack choice and competition. In 10 states, a single insurance company controls more than 75 percent of the health care market. In those states, health care premiums have risen 6 time faster than the average income of their resdients. If you get health care through your employer, your employer chooses your provider. If you purchase your care privately, once you become sick, if you are dissatisfied with your current provider, no other provider will cover you with your preexisting condition.

We are living the nightmare right now. We need a public plan.
