Sir Paul is a canny lyricist, often indulging in wordplay ("Maybe I'm Amazed", "Temporary Secretary", "When I met you at the station / You were standing with a bootleg in your hand"). I doubt that jarring repetition is a grammatical error or a slip of the tongue.

Here's my theory:

When you were young and your heart was an open book

You used to say live and let live

(You know you did, you know you did, you know you did)

But if this ever-changing world in which we live in

Makes you give in and cry

Then live and let die
