reunion

So Saturday night was a 'hockey fund-raiser pub night' for a friend's hockey team. It sounded good, so I signed myself up. (okay, so somebody else signed me up, but at my request)

The pub night was good fun, as it promised to be, but it got me thinking about other things, namely community.

At the pub on Saturday, I would estimate that there were 16 people from my high school. I would say about half of those people I see on a fairly regular basis, and the other half I encounter about once a year. What struck me about the pub night was that even though I only see some of those people once a year, we all still manage to keep on top of each other's lives. Yes, it's minimal, but its almost as if we have a running conversation that takes place in short bursts annually. There is no awkward pause, or snobby stare that takes place, and even people I rarely spoke with during school have no problem smiling and saying hello. It's honestly good to see them, and I enjoy the non-committal friendly semi-sustained relationship that I have with them. I'm not sure, but this doesn't seem to be a common experience.

hmm

I don't really have a concluding thought on this. It's just an observation really.
