Sammy wanted a story. Not a song that Dean could break his voice over in a couple minutes and be done, but a story that would take several handfuls of minutes and would slowly torture and embarrass him. Dean gave in though to Sammy's large eyes peeking through his long bangs.
He sighed. "What story do you want to hear?"
"I want you to make something up!" Sammy said.
Dean knew lots of stories. Stories with monsters and tough heroes, but he didn't really want to tell Sammy those ones. They were real and he was afraid Sammy would discover that the monsters in the closet and under the bed weren't all that far away from real. Techniquely Dean had known about the monsters since he was younger than Sammy was now, but he tried not to remember that and just focus on the present.
Dean selected a story without monsters. He told a quiet, peaceful story that was easy on his sore throat and stuffy nose and easy too on his brain.
"Once upon a time there was a father and mother and two sons who lived in an underwater volcano. The underwater volcano was hot but the water cooled it and made it just warm. In the underwater volanco the family longed for visitors and excitement, but they had each other and were okay with their warm home."
