"A Christmas tree?" Came a familiar, ever-so-cheerful voice from behind the two friends, followed by a wide grin. It wasn't so much that she had been purposefully peeking on them or anything, but sometimes Yuuko just happened to be in the right place and moment, particularly so when the topic at hand was interesting to her; some would call it luck, but she knew better.

There were no coincidences in this world, after all.

"You know, you really should get one, if this is how you people celebrate Christmas around here!" She addressed Clow before he could so much as utter a word in response, coming to sit by is side. "I've always wanted to have one, but it's not really a part of Japanese tradition, so it was hardly a shared interest back home."

Clow had to disagree. "We don't all celebrate the same way," he said offhandedly. "I don't put up a tree, most of us don't light candles for menaurah*." He gave a shrug and went back to the worksheet before himself. Class was pretty much over when they were able to finish the worksheet. Their professor said if they left a few at a time it would be okay and Clow wanted to leave. Well, not wanted, but he would have liked to go earlier if possible.

"Why don't you ask your host family to get one?" he offered between questions. Clow was on the last one. He'd be first to finish (as always) and out the door if he had no more distractions. Shame really.

"Because I don't have a host family, why else?" She casually replied, surprised she hadn't told him so before - she could almost swear she had, though. Calling Yuuko an exchange student was merely a manner of speech, as she didn't have a host family or any of the other formalities, for that matter; she had come to London by herself, and she had been living by herself all this time. She was pretty used to it by now, so there was no need to play victim.

Although one could hope Clow would have a little more tact next time, now that he knew.

Once having signed her worksheet (and adding a small butterfly in the end, as a personal touch), the witch carelessly threw her pen inside her bag and stood up, slinging it over her shoulders. "I guess I'll have to find a place to get one by myself, then," She told him with a small shrug, then made her way to the teacher's desk so she could turn in her paper. Leaving early was always a bonus.

The whole thing about her not having a host family made him feel a little bit guilty. He hadn't known and only assumed. Clow wasn't so sure he'd like to go to a foreign country without someone to guide him.

Or maybe he would. How adventurous. That, and he'd be alone so he could do his magic. Hm.

Looking up from his worksheet that he had just tacked the final period on, for he answered in full sentences always, he watched Yuuko get up. His friend behind him whacked his shoulder lightly, Clow responding by batting him away.

"Have a good break," said the long haired man to his friend before getting up and taking his paper to the front of the room. His eyes never left Yuuko from behind his glasses. How had she- no one ever- had he just-

When she disappeared out the door, Clow was only three or so paces behind her. "Yuuko!" he whispered loudly once the door shut behind him and he took long strides to catch up. "You finished?"

"Hmm?" Yuuko gave him her profile at first, her expression one of earnest surprise as Clow was rarely ever the one seeking her out - it was more like the opposite, actually. Not that she was complaining, of course; she welcomed the change. That, and she was growing to be quite curious about what could have possibly prompted this from him.

"No, I didn't feel like staying in class any longer, so I just turned it in with blank answers everywhere," She did her best to put up a straight face, trying to be convincing - and it worked very well, considering the look Clow gave her. What a dork, she rolled her eyes at him. "Yes, of course I'm finished, silly. Why?"

It really had been meant to be a rhetorical question--that was beside the point. Clow gave a light shrug in return as they walked side-by-side. "People don't usually finish first," he said without sounding like a complete weirdo. It wasn't that he was obsessed with being the best, he just happened to be more skilled and naturally talented. While the rest of the class often had to work for their education, Clow sucked up information like a sponge and retained it well.

"I was just shocked, that's all."

A heavy sigh came forth, though Yuuko wasn't genuinely frustrated at him - more like amused, in fact. She had known him long enough to get used to his ways. "You, my friend, are terribly stuck up, you know that?" She teased him, adding a smile so to show she meant no harm - even though he likely knew her well enough as well so to realize as much by himself.

"You're just lucky I don't care much for academic recognition, or else you'd be no match for me," She went on, an ego to match his own. "Besides, it's break time now, and I plan to stay away from books for as long as I can and go have some fun. Starting right now~"

That said, she turned to him with her most innocent look and cooed. "Say, do you have any plans?"

Clow gave a wave of his hand and a small smirk. He knew. He knew. He knew. But that wasn't going to stop him. In fact, that had been his modest way of saying "I usually finish first because I'm awesome." But he did enjoy a bit of Yuuko's banter. How could one expect a man with gifts like his own not to have an ego the size of Mt Fuji?

"I think I'd be fine," he replied smoothly while putting on his winter jacket from the rack room at the entrance of the school. Buttoning it up, he gave her a look back. She was not innocent at all. "Yes," said Clow as he turned away to pick up his bag from the floor.

"Then you're calling them off," She retorted almost instantly, all pretenses of innocence now left aside - he could probably read right through her, anyway. Then again, that worked both ways, so she didn't feel guilty in the least for not-so-nicely bossing him around and telling to cancel his plans. She was pretty much sure they consisted of staying in-doors and playing around with his magic, so.

"You might not want a Christmas tree, but I'm getting one," She informed him as she put on her coat, throwing her cascades of hair to one side with a small fling of her hand. "The thing is, I don't know where to go for one here, and since Christmas is pretty close by, I don't feel like wasting any more time. You know what I'm getting at, ne, Riido-kun~?"

Letting out an exasperated sigh, Clow hung his head while slinging his bag on his shoulder. "Alright," he said. No sense in arguing; he wasn't in the mood today. He wasn't really in the mood to argue with her most days, which was why she often won. He supposed in the long run he could just not do whatever it was she wanted, ignore her--that was rude.

"I'll take you tomorrow at one." Shaking his head at his weakness, Clow walked toward the front entrance and held it open for her when he reached it. "I'll drive."
