Glad to see you over on ONTD_P! I don't usually get into discussions over there though. :P

Actually, I agree w/ most of them on most issues. They don't take too lightly on sexism/racism, because most of the users there tend to be women, POC, or both. They are also more well-versed in anthropology/sociology/women's studies than the average person, and thus a lot more sensitive on those issues, but not so much on economics or finance.

They're not really protective of people who decide to comment and get called out on, although there have been a couple of mod posts lately against pure ad hominem attacks ie, "YOU'RE A FUCKHEAD" with no additional explanation. As far as snark goes, it goes with the ontd prefix to the community name. You can find intelligent and civil discussions on most topics if you come with somewhat backed ideas, but I wouldn't expect it on race/women's issues.

Well they're liberals. It goes without saying I agree with them on most issues. That said, it's rather... privileged to only care about privilege issues when they only affect your group, and allergy to intelligent thought and civil debates is something I expect to find from conservatives, not liberals.

I have noticed something of that pattern though. Environmental issues are rarely posted about and never get a lot of comments, for example, but every international women's issue is responded to with THIS IS A CALL TO THE SISTERHOOD, EVERYONE ON LJ GET OFFENDED AND THEN DO NOTHING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IN THE REAL WORLD.

Me, having lost all respect for online bitching since actually working for the Obama campaign.

Well, there's a time and a place for civil/intelligent debates out of context of the privilege issue in question. I didn't really read into what went on between you and a few members over there (too busy frothing at the mouth over healthcare lol). But this isn't the first time someone's tried to bring a different perspective in the comments than the one discussed in the original article posted. Usually if it's about gender/race, certain members will try and turn that specific post into a protected space in which other commentors can only discuss the privilege issue displayed, and any other views are sort of seen as derailment.

That said, I should probably read the discussions in question before I say anymore. :D Beearbeeee

I was especially impatient with people wanting to discuss that shit with me yesterday when I was focused on healthcare.

The debate I'm referring to wasn't even remotely related to the original thread (sexting). Which is an issue that affects males and females. So basically neither discussion of privilege was really related to the original thread, although that kind of policy makes it really, really difficult to hear other views, sort of like watching Fox News.

Anyway. I was aware it wouldn't be well-received. I HAVE been a liberal longer than last week. I wasn't really expecting the height of idiocy I encountered but I've been off LJ for a while. :D

Link to idiocy in question? I have to admit I can't for the life of me find anything.

Scroll down to my first comment, which is actually the second one on the post itself.

That ENTIRE thread? Especially responses by meran_flash or whatever her name is?

Yeah.
