Actually, the Genocide of Native American's was unsuccessful. There are thousands of pure blooded Native American's still living on reservations to this day and instead of exterminating them, we now offer them as much financial compensation as possible without sending the government into bankruptcy. We even acknolodge individuals with as little as 1/16th Indian heritage as being representative of those native tribes that we attempted to erradicate. We recognized that their destruction was not the right way to go. It may have happened only once we took all their land and forced them into camps to rot, but eventually we realized it and we took steps to make ammends. Some can argue that those steps, even today, haven't been enough, but at least the goverment is trying to set things right.

It is the nature of countries to expand and grow as much as they can. There's not a single nation in the world that doesn't want it's border to expand, but in today's world that goal is unrealistic. Conquest is no-longer tolerated by the international community. Every invasion, every death will offend someone.

The killing going on in Darfur a part of this system. If it's not government mandated, then the militias are trying to expand their control. If it is, the Sudanese government is trying to expand its control. And the internation community rightfully condemns it.

Should the killing in Darfur stop? Absolutely. Should we do what we can to stop it? I believe so. All I'm saying is that we can't do that with an attitude of superiority as though we are the epitomy of world ethics. We must approach the situation realistically by acknowledging our own role in the genocide of native peoples as well as our attempts at redemption, and our handling of these murderous war criminals should justly reflect that.
