It just gets better and better!

Ive been missing. Does this sound all too familiar? With the financial crisis and the upcoming election, I think the world is writing less while focusing their day to day activities on more relevant and important tasks. I, on the other hand, have been focusing on typing with nine fingers instead of ten, watching the debates, working, and being a father. Worse yet, I started this entry on Friday (October 17) but havent touched it since. Such a busy weekend, wouldve been nice if it didnt cost so much money, its the atypical life of a parent.

October 8 was an interesting day, the night was even better. After a long evening with the children, I sat on the couch with Jessica and Lucy (the wonder beagle). I noticed she had something in her fur and showed Jessica. One of us, Im not sure whether it was Jessica or I, tugged at it. Lucy yelped, lunged for my hand which was positioned in front of her face, and bit my right ring finger. She almost went completely through the skin while ripping it in a ragged V shape. Jessica and I stood up, went to the sink, washed and wrapped it. We then discussed our next plan of action. All the children were asleep; Jessica thought our neighbor could watch the house while she drives me to the hospital. She couldnt! Would you believe her bible-study group was more important? They prayed for me, how nice. I drove myself while bleeding, searing pain in my finger, with blood all over my shirt, shorts, and skin. If I wouldve been stopped for speeding, the first question wouldve been, Whod you kill?

I arrived at the hospital, checked in, and was quickly seen. The doctor and nurses assessed my finger and opted against stitching it. Instead, they chose to clean it out and wrap it tightly. This, as they opined, was better as infection wouldnt get caught under the stitches. What they failed to mention was the pain, ooze, blood, fat, and muscle tissue which would emanate from the bite. To continue, they gave me two shots near the base of my finger to deaden it. I almost passed outI forgot to breathe. Once I returned to normal a technician came in and cleaned it out, bandaged, and wrapped it. Since I couldnt remember the last time I had a tetanus shot, I got another. Discharge paperwork and a prescription for an 875mg antibiotic and I was on my way. Such a fun night!

The weekend after my injury was rather uneventful. We took it easy as even a light touch on the finger hurt a lot. I had to re-cluster a few of my production servers as they were misbehaving but otherwise, nothing exciting. Strange weather, to say the least, as both Friday and Saturday night were cold and winter-like. If the temperature wouldve dipped another ten degrees wed have had snow. Sunday, though, was the complete opposite with sunny skies, warm, and a little breezy. The rest of the week was Indian Summer-like; more of the same weather and quite boringuntil Wednesday.

Jessica picked Tyler and Kylea up from school and headed over to the Obama office to get some paperwork for me, stickers for the children, and to simply check the place out for me. As she was pulling into the parking lot, she misjudged the right turn and slammed the front right tire into the curb. The tire immediately went flat; no one got hurt, and made it safely to a parking space. She called my cell to let me know, I then called to get the tire changed while I headed out of my office to meet up with her. Upon my arrival I assessed the damage. Sure enough, she hit the sidewall of the tire and depressed the bead. There was no coming back from thatId need a new tire. We drove to the tire store.

My first thought, two tires as you can never get one. When the technician looked at the other tires he discovered that all of them needed to be replaced. Now, instead of two tires I needed four and my checkbook was already starting to cringe. I wrote the check for $519.25. The van was ready in thirty-five minutes ($14.84 per minute, Im in the wrong business). Now if theyll replace the tire-pressure monitor on one of those tires Ill be forever happy.

I should keep on writing but Ive got a lot to write about but no motivation to do so.

blogging, health, family
