My trip to Singapore has been busy with very limited time for enjoyment. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were constant, filled with discussions on every aspect of the project. I gave up taking notes early on, as I knew my memory would serve me better than occasional four or five words in a text editor. Wednesday, I arrived at the office at 8, met until 7, then carted myself off to dinner at a non-Asian restaurant called Spaggedis. Thursday, at the office by 8:30, met until 8, then went to
Brewerkz for dinner. As we’re heading back to the car, a coworker got a call from one of the company’s executives. Although inappropriate, I would’ve loved to say, “Can we just head back to the hotel?” but didn’t. We had drinks until 11:45pm. Friday, we got into the office by 8:45. We opted to drive near
Changi to get a glimpse of one of the three
Airbus A380’s that
Singapore Airlines owns, but none were found. After a long and tiring day, we left the office at 7pm, once again driving near Changi to catch a glimpse of the airplane. Once again, it wasn’t there.
The time difference has been rough, even more than usual since I’ve gone through three time changes in four weeks. I wake up between 3 and 6am daily and have problems staying asleep. There really aren’t many options; I’ve even tried weaning myself off caffeinated soda. Maybe I’m getting old, out of shape, or a combination of the two. I hope when I get back home I’ll return to the gym and get myself into shape so traveling won’t be so hard on my system. Traveling is always hard on the body, especially in foreign countries, as I’ve discovered over the past eleven years of traveling internationally. Since schedules are difficult, you eat more, fooling your body into thinking its dinner. Then again, Asian cuisine is light, therefore, not filling. I’m tired of eating two lunches. Man cannot survive on chicken rice or beef satay alone. A
Subway roast-beef on wheat sounds very appetizing right now. I’ll be home in a couple days; I hope Jessica won’t mind having Subway for dinner Sunday night.
While having lunch at
Hard Rock Café, I went to the store and discovered the prices have gone up. I cannot justify paying S$35 ($26) for a t-shirt that I’d give to my son (I’ll probably go back and buy one anyway). Jessica has a request for tea and a few other items need locating. It’s time to leave the comforts of my air-conditioned hotel room and head out into the Singapore humidity.
I almost forgot: I’m leaving tomorrow morning. Instead of flying out Monday morning at 7:15am, I changed my flight to Sunday morning at 7:15am. I’ll still connect through Tokyo and Los Angeles but I’ll be home Sunday at 4pm. Although my internal clock will show it being Monday 6am, I’d rather have my family than another night at the S$350.00 (roughly $257)
Four Seasons hotel. Trust me it isn’t worth it!
