Getting It Together

I finally got all of my birthday presents mailed out! I was late for all but one of them, and a couple of them also contained Christmas presents from 2006. But, they are in the mail.

I spent $180 at Old Navy. I have avoided buying new clothes for too long, and it's time to remedy that. I've pulled out a very substantial pile of clothes for Goodwill, and now I just need:

- a pair of comfortable black shoes, appropriate for business attire
- about three pairs of pants (one pair of jeans, one pair of light brown, one black)
- a pair of shorts for sleeping that actually cover my cellulitey thighs (what is with these super short shorts lately, and why can't these southern-fried sorority girls understand that THEY DON'T LOOK GOOD ON THEM)
- Fleece jacket
- boots
- thermal underpants
- about three thick sweaters
- socks

As you can see, that's going to be rather expensive. I'm going to return a few things I bought at Old Navy (including a beautiful gray cabled cardigan with big pretty buttons that's 100% cotton and weighs about a ton).

And, I have a place to live! It isn't official yet, but we just have to get the paperwork and sign the lease. Yes, it's beautiful and on the National Register of Historic Places. Yes, pets are allowed. Yes, it's primarily for elderly, so it'll be nice and quiet. Yes, it's only 2 miles from UND and even less from downtown. Yes, there's fortification for flood protection. Yes, heat is included in the rent. Yes, there are high ceilings and tall windows and a dishwasher.

That's all well and good. But the best part is the rent. Until I get a job, our rent will be $56/month. Remember, that includes heat.

So things seem to be going well. I've got a list of volunteer opportunities in the area. I've got one job that I actually want that I have to apply for (College of Public Health secretary). I have plans.

However,I have become weak. I was on a healthy one-knitting-project-at-a-time diet for a couple of months, but as the wagon is pulling away from me and I am choking on the dust it kicks up, I can only determine that I have, in fact, fallen off it. I was working on my dad's cable rib socks (which are boring boring boring), and next thing I knew, I had cast on for an afghan! Then, imagine my surprise when I realized I had also cast on for a lace scarf. I was recovering from my overwhelming disappointment in myself when, horror upon horrors, I found myself knitting a fair isle mitten! Oh, self-control, what has become of you?
