Yo-Yo Ma and Brazil

For some reason I don't quite understand, I seem to be on a Yo-Yo Ma streak, accompanied by a Brazilian music streak.

I absolutely adore Yo-Yo Ma. This started when someone noticed my copy of Silk Road Journeys and they gave me a copy of Obrigado Brazil, his classical-Brazilian crossover album. I've been listening to it constantly.

Then Steven has made an arrangement for us of Insensatez by Antonio Carlos Jobim, so I've got bossa nova on the brain. No, that's not right; I don't think you can have bossa nova on the brain. I've got it in my body. Standing on the platform waiting for the train, standing at the corner waiting for the light to change, I find myself swaying to the rhythm as it plays in my head. And it feels goooood. Now we just need some hot Brazilian dancers to go with it.

And I liked that album so much that today I made an impulse purchase of two more Yo-Yo Ma albums. I got the first Appalachian one, and the Tan Dun soundtrack for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, with Yo-Yo Ma as soloist. These two are my 8th and 9th albums of his. I already had his recording of John Tavener, the Bach cello suites, Dvorak, a compilation, and the Bobby McFerrin one. I also want the other Appalachian one, the Ennio Morricone movie score one and the Tango one.

Am I addicted to Yo-Yo Ma? If so, it's a very pleasant addiction.
