I think I have managed to regain my composure and detach from all the political church hoopla. It is what it is. As a church professional, spiritual survival has always depended on my ability to recognize this truth, and detach. In any organized gathering of human beings, be it churches or charities or governments or corporations, such behavior happens. We indulge ourselves, become enamored of our own accomplishments, forgetting the difference between our human constructs and the Holy One. God is God. The constructs we build, the images in our minds, however good, however beautiful, are not God.
None of this turmoil changes the Holy One. There will still be Eucharist on Sunday morning and God will still show up. God is good. God is just. God loves.
Though with care and toil we build them,
tower and temple fall to dust;
but God's power,
hour by hour,
is my temple and my tower.
church politics,
spirituality,
faith
