Prologue: The Ocean's Rising Fever

I have no idea how this managed not to get any comments, but this is scary. Scary, and not a little too close to home. Your music choice cinched it: a few disasters too many and there's no turning back.

Scary is definitely what I was writing for, so it's great it worked--and yes, it scares me, too! It's really about inevitability--things toppling, adding up...

I wanted to write something (post) apocalyptic, and I didn't want to use just one disaster, because it just doesn't seem feasible to me, considering the structures we have in place--I mean, it would need to cover a continent to affect the whole country, and even then, there's the rest of the world--but at the same time, something big enough to effect everything (the Yellowstone volcano, or something else huge) would do too much damage for the fic to be feasible, because basically everyone would be dead...
