Today Jess and I went on a scenic drive to Troy to have my driver's license renewed. It was our first spring rain, and everything was stunningly beautiful! The fresh green of new leaves that's made brighter by rain is quite possibly my favorite color. Of course the DMV was not all that scenic. It was exactly like you'd picture the Troy DMV: in the bowels of a government building from the 70s, featuring slow-turning ceiling fans, anti-DWI posters from the 80s, and orange elevators with mirrors. The Troy employees are far friendlier than the Suffolk County ones though.
This weekend, the entry and friends had a belated birthday barbecue for me. Our original spot got stolen by another entry, so we ended up at the Green River, which was much nicer anyway. Sam did an excellent job with the food shopping -- berries and strawberry shortcake and cheeses and good yogurt, in addition to the usual grilling fare. glorious!
Sunday night I went to a professor's house for an Indonesian feast, and it was tons of fun. Really good food, good stories, a cute dog, playing rounds of two truths and a lie, all with Javanese theater music playing in the background.
This is such a weird time of year, seeing things coming full circle. We had a JA advisory board dinner on Friday, the new class picked entries yesterday, and the generations barbecue is coming up. It's funny thinking back to this time last year (my expectations, hopes, naivety, fears) especially since I don't yet personally feel like things for this year are quite wrapping up yet. The next two weeks of classes will go very quickly, though, I'm sure. Then it's finals, WOOLF and JA training, and... summer! Whoa.
