So after my semi-effectual career counseling meeting yesterday, I've decided that my summer job strategy will be to just email as many people as possible and see what happens. As in: paid archeological dig in Hungary? why not! That has actually already not panned out, because the project's grant has expired, but I got a very cute email back from the professor, which included the line, "I wish you the best of luck in finding another project and in your pursuit of the study of the past," and then he gave me some other links. Professors are a categorically cute bunch of people, I think.

So far I've been investigating either anthro or geology research, or the ever-popular non-profit work through an alumni-sponsored internship (as in: Williams gives me money, I go out and try to save the world, or at least file things for people). And as a sophomore, I'm at a weird point where I can do everything and nothing. Most things require a minimum of two years of college, but the really awesome things tend to have more qualifications. I have juuust enough course work in both anthropology and geology (and thankfully have done minimal amounts of field work in both!) to apply for these things, but I'm not sure how that bodes in terms of being hired/accepted. And I also realized that my CLC job is probably my in for most non-profit work, since I am technically doing something along the lines of "marketing." Hooray!

In other news, winter study is almost over (eek!) I'm going home for the weekend, then having a day (in the city?) with Bonnie and Noe, and then we'll drive back Tuesday so we have a bit of time to collect ourselves before classes on Thursday. wow! I'm excited for next semester -- particularly for my tutorial -- although at the moment I can't really fathom juggling the usual four classes plus a job, etc. I guess it's bound to happen, though!

Oh yes, and tomorrow's high = 12 degrees. And tomorrow with wind chill = negative 27. rockin.

college, employment, vacation
