Part 4 Quinn has tried with Santana, she really has but she’s never met anyone as stubborn or closed off, she knows it’s one of the things she used to love about her but at this moment in time she actually hates her for it. Still she wonders if fate was on her side when she finds herself at the track to meet with Santana, but instead finds herself face to face with Brittany.
Brittany is all kinds of charming but unfortunately she’s not exactly the smartest of people, still Quinn supposes she has it where it counts, and the stupid comments that slip so easily from her mouth only endear Brittany to her more. Quinn loves Santana, and so can’t help but want the best for her {it’s what she has with Finn after all, and damn did Santana put him through his paces} and she knows without a doubt that nobody could be better for her than Brittany.
They spend a good few hours talking, of which Quinn spends most of it laughing {Brittany’s hilarious, both unintentionally and intentionally.} She’s so friendly and open that Quinn can’t help but wonder how Santana got it so wrong and she can’t help herself when she asks the blondes opinion on the matter.
Brittany doesn’t know how to answer her {Quinn admitted to being Santana’s best friend, and how do you say what you think when it’s not very nice} because she thinks Santana is plain mean and just generally a bitch, so she can’t really understand exactly why Quinn is friends with somebody like her. She wonders if perhaps there’s something to Santana that she can’t see, and that only makes her madder because she’s usually quite good at reading people. Although she thinks if there was another side to Santana she wouldn’t mind seeing it. So she tells an actual lie, but she’s never been a very good liar and what she says to Quinn ends up sounding way worse and so Quinn ends up thinking that Brittany hates Santana enough to wish her gone {but that’s not even remotely true because Brittany has never hated anyone.}
It doesn’t exactly help when Santana appears from the sleek car the group had admired on that first day looking fierce and all sorts of attractive in a navy pantsuit {it also doesn’t help Santana that Brittany is wearing overalls, tied at the waist and a tank top that was maybe white before she got herself covered in splatters of oil.} It’s the first time Quinn has seen them in the same space and the energy surrounding them is so sexually charged that Quinn really wants to go home and lock herself in any room with Finn {and she’s frankly rather amused and perplexed that Brittany and Santana are oblivious to it.}
Only there not exactly oblivious to it, they both realise they have this uncanny ability to change it to anger and in a matter of seconds the air has turned blue and Quinn is genuinely afraid that Santana is going to end it in violence {only Santana could never have the heart to even so much as lift a finger towards the blonde.} When Santana stalks off Quinn is more than a little shocked, and with a quick goodbye to Brittany {who in the absence of Santana had turned into her normal cheery self} finds herself running after Santana.
She’s shocked and trying to comprehend what had just transpired so can only come to the conclusion that it was Santana’s fault {because Brittany had been nothing but lovely, and Santana is sometimes anything but lovely.} So she does what she has always done, she shouts and she screams and she proves to Santana just who is the bigger bitch. Still she knows she’s given Santana something to think about.

It took one minute of intense shouting for Puck to realise that Santana had made her presence known at the track, and it takes Kurt ten minutes of careful stalking to realise that Santana was off to find Brittany {for the second time much to his amusement, because as close as they had been watching Brittany, Santana had still managed to slip past.} So Puck and Artie make themselves a fixture in the workshop under the pretence of helping Brittany with a simple engine cap change. Kurt joins them moments later and shakes his head disapprovingly as Puck goads Brittany with the mention of one feisty Latina.
Only Puck wasn’t aware of their first meeting today and was frankly unprepared for the string of words that Brittany managed to put together {most of which Puck was sure the blonde has no idea what they mean, and the rest couldn’t exist anywhere but in Brittany’s mind, still it’s pretty damn effective.} Puck however was aware that at the other side of the door there was a potentially very angry Santana Lopez who would no longer have any inclination of Brittany having positive feelings towards her and would by extension leave her alone.
Puck was only half right because Santana knew she was something way beyond angry. She had agonised for a good half hour about whether to apologise, and what had she got for her efforts, conformation that Brittany was all at once stunning, lovely, a complete cow and the most ridiculous stupid person she had ever had the misfortune of meeting. So she did the one thing she swore never to do again, she went to daddy.
Santana was so much like her mother that he was surprised that it took this long for her to make such a demand. It had taken his wife a matter of weeks before she had him out on the streets with nowhere to go. It’s why he refused to do the same to Brittany. He had been there, knew what it was like to have nothing left and even though it had given him the clarity to see what he was missing with regards to his future wife, he had neither the time or the confidence in Brittany {it wasn’t that he didn’t think she was lovely, but she was a little slower than most people and he couldn’t be sure she would ever get the point. Also he was sure he could get Brittany into the last spot of next week’s race.} So for once her denies his daughters request and refuses to remove Brittany from the team, and though it hurts when Santana curses at him in Spanish he knows she will eventually calm down, and she will eventually reconcile her feelings. Or so he hopes.
