If you like to get scared, this is definitely the movie for you. Yes, I know the "found footage" style of movies these days is a bit over-done, so much so that there's now parodies (like Marlon Wayanes' Haunted House or Supernatural Activity), but trust me when I tell you Grave Encounters 2 is guaranteed to make you jump more than once.

The movie starts out with various real vlog reviews of the first movie, Grave Encounters. That movie was scary as well, so much so I spent most of it with my eyes covered. One scene expertly copied a well-known hoax video from 2009 in which hands started reaching through the walls and under the door, allegedly real paranormal activity.

But Grave Encounters 2 picks up where the first movie left off in an unusual way. Student film makers Alex Wright (Harmon) and Trevor Thompson (Fairplay) are making their own horror film when Alex's vision takes a left turn and he decides to investigate the truth behind the first Grave Encounters film after receiving strange messages from someone only identifying themselves as 'deathawaits666'. Alex and Trevor decide to investigate the site of the first film with their friends Tessa (Bennett), Jared (Lai), and Jennifer (Lapp). They're nearly chased away by a rent-a-cop security guard patrolling the old psych hospital, leaving them more curious. They eventually break in to the hospital and that's when things start going wrong.

A few of the same tricks from the first movie are employed in the sequel (like the building layout continually changing and the demonic, stretched faces of the hospital's ghostly inhabitants. But the plot twists and turns and the AMAZING ending are what make this movie so outstanding. The Vicious Brothers have a real eye for horror. While writers like Ti West go for subtle scares, The Vicious Brothers are out to shake people to their core.

Don't watch Grave Encounters 2 with the lights off. In fact, I probably wouldn't even sleep with the lights off.
