Weinergate and Other Political Scandals

'Weinergate' as it's been called is the 12th major sex scandal to break within the U.S. government since the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal made national headlines in the mid-to-late 1990s. Last night on her show, Rachel Maddow made comparisons between them all, including the latest issues with Rep. Anthony Weiner.

As far as sex scandals go, IMO, as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult I think it is between them and anyone they may be involved with. I really don't care who is sleeping with who, who is cheating on who and who is sending pictures of what body part to who. Now, if anything illegal or abusive is going on that's another story.

And, people calling for a review due to the ethics clause make me laugh. I just wonder what things they are doing that put them just one tattletail email away from being reviewed themselves.

His sex life doesn't matter to me either (though it must not be that great if he's emailing six random women in three years). My concern is the fact that he may have been doing this using government resources, paid by taxpayers and his constituents. And he's saying he's not sure if he used govt property or not. Considering how much he lied to try and hide this, I don't believe him.

It does sound like it's worthy of an investigation. I agree that the Dems have to chase it down, and frankly I would insist on that for anyone else. I don't really care that he did it; I'm not happy about it, but I'd be willing to give him a pass for one reason, and one reason only. He is not a social conservative, and I have no memory of him ever telling anyone how to live their lives. Clearly he should not be doing this, and I suspect he will pay in one way, shape or form, but he doesn't get the beat down that someone like Larry Craig would, because his stupidity is not aggravated by hypocrisy.
