This sounds like responsible policy and good ideas. My fear is that any reform(needed regardless of my fears) will become more of a political football. We could easily loose important departments because some senator finds them "too trivial to save". We already have movements to get rid of the department of education, not that it doesn't need reform as well.
I know, I know, this is a tea-party battle cry, but without some national oversight, we will not be able to compete with countries with better education systems..(yes, they do exist). Furthermore, consider the damage being done by the Texas BoE changing textbooks to reflect an evangelical, conservative agenda. Sorry, but we don't need to redefine slavery as a "triangular trade agreement" with England and Africa.
