Why An Obama Impeachment Won't Happen

May 29, 2010 19:42

On June 9, 2008, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D - Ohio) presented over 30 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush including a secret propaganda campaign to push Americans into supporting a war in Iraq and painted the picture that Iran was never a threat to the United States. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid wanted nothing to do with it and the ( Read more... )

not that I'd expect you'd like to hear. Oh well.

Impeachment is unfounded, absurd and clearly destructive to the country. Actually, I'm not thrilled with his performance either, but I'm rational enough to see that he was better than the alternative at the time. If you don't like the guy, vote for someone else. When "W" was in office, regardless of things like the "justification-for-invading-Iraq-of-the-week" Illegal wiretaps and other illegal and potentiality illegal actions, I opposed impeachment. Not because I thought he was competent or even fairly elected, but because the "us vs them" attitude is bad for the nation. The GOP ruined the tool of impeachment when they impeached Clinton for lying about a blow-job. It has to stop.
So much of politics these days is a game, it's a power game with no purpose and no rules. It's sour grapes, I'm really sorry that the conservatives have to deal with someone on the other team winning, but alas, votes count. I'm sorry that a democrat is acting, on occasion, like a democrat, but what did you expect. Frankly I think Obama has made great reaches across the isle, and for basically no gain.
Of course if one listens to Glen Beck, then he's a Stalinist, Satan worshiper and no one should work with him at all. Hence no one on the right feels like he or she can work with him as the constituency is being lead by the nose by Fox News. If you call him un-American, you can't work with him next week. If all you see is a token black president, then don't complain if someone calls you a racist.

You're welcome to say whatever you like. I'm not gonna treat you any differently just because we have different political views.
I'm sure you can see from previous blogs that there are certain things that I agree with him on. However, clearly someone broke the law by offering Sestak an administrative position if he were to quit running because, had they offered him the job just to offer him the job, he'd be in the position. Clinton acknowledged that a job was offered to Sestak. And like I said in my example, you can't offer someone a job unless you've had approval from the boss. It's not like you're going to hire someone to work in your office when you're not in a position to hire people, right? Someone higher up the food chain had to have known what was going on and if Obama wasn't doing a decent job of keeping his assistants in check, then he should be held accountable for it in some way or another. There are people out there who think this is an impeachable offense and I'm just addressing why it's never gonna happen.

IF we want to start dealing with nepotism and flunky-ism, we are going to be at this all day. "W" was famous for it, Clinton, Reagan etc... it goes on, and on.

As for offering someone a job to get out of the way, in an election, yeah, that is bad behavior. It's also just as common as the previous point. Unfortunately, we an trace similar actions by Bush(s), Regan, Nixon, and others. If it's an impeachable offense, then we rightly should have taken out the last five or six presidents. Fortunately, though, again, it's shitty behavior, the country wasn't so extreme in the past.

Frankly, I don't think an attempt at impeachment would help the right's credibility. I suspect that even if they had cause, and they clearly don't, the end result would be fuel to the left. It would be pretty clear that any democratic president would face an impeachment hearing, regardless. The game falls apart if it becomes too obvious that it's just a game. I think it's too much that way right now, and the result is lower and lower voter turn out.
