I had planned on writing a massive entry concerning this topic, but one provision of the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act puts to bed any notion that what the state of Arizona is doing violates any federal laws.
State and local law enforcement officials have the general power to investigate and arrest violators of federal immigration statutes without prior INS knowledge or approval, as long as they are authorized to do so by state law. There is no extant federal limitation on this authority.
The Act was revised in 1965. Little tidbit of information: according to The Boston Globe, Obama won the 2008 election thanks to the reduction in the percentage of whites living in America, a demographic shift credited by the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which was pushed forward by Ted Kennedy. Bonus: Ted Kennedy's speech during Senate floor debate:
First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia.... In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.... It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.
This proves that if our government pushes through a plan that includes amnesty for illegals, our government will be in Democratic control for a very long time.
EDIT: Because of
paft's endless whining, let me add that the first quotation is a summary of the provision from the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. Amendments were added to the law as recently as the 1990's. You can find the full summary
here along with additional immigration law information from
ReportIllegals.com. In my opinion, if people don't report illegal residents, then they're accomplices to a crime and are just as guilty as the person living in the U.S. without proper documentation.
