Toes to Fingertips - taught by Molly Mitchell, Deshret's assistant director
Now that you’ve got the hang of isolating your core muscles, it’s time to bring your attention outward. Hand gestures, arm movements and footwork are important layers that can drastically change the look and feel of a step, and thus are essential components in developing your own unique dance body language. We will spend equal time on the upper and lower body as we move through a series of exercises, visualizations and short dance combinations designed to get you thinking creatively about the kinds of lines and postures that can compliment your body and add variety and drama to your dance vocabulary. We’ll also cover practice techniques for developing muscle awareness to give you the confidence to recreate those poses onstage, where there’s no mirror to check your alignment. Emphasis throughout this class will be on personal assessment and working from the core outward to find the range of movement that fits your body, your style, and your dance.
12 pm - 12:45 pm - break for lunch
12:45 - 2:45 pm Afternoon session:
Enhancing Your Dance Learning Efficiency - taught by Deshret principal dancer, Predslava
Personal progress in dance is ever a product of learning. You learn sensitivity to music, technical skill, complex choreographies... But have you ever learned to be a better learner? Have you ever wished you could progress faster? Have you found your dance learning style? This workshop aims at helping you find your learning style, so you may maximize the efficiency of your dance practice - whether in class or at home. The workshop will be taught around a slinky new choreography, and students will have opportunity to explore “hands-on” the psychology of learning.

Cultivating Your Personal Practice - taught by Deshret principal dancer, Lisa
"The professional dedicates herself to mastering technique not because she believes technique is a substitute for inspiration but because she wants to be in possession of the full arsenal of skills when inspiration does come."~Steven Pressfield The Art of War
To practice is divine but to procrastinate, now that is truly human! Whether your dream is to perform at a belly dance festival or finally have a belly roll to show off to your friends, it all starts with a personal practice. Join Lisa as she explores exercises for the body and mind geared toward helping you establish the best physical approach to realizing your goals. We will discuss strategies to overcome resistance, establish your intention, and work through a series of exercises designed to maximize drilling. Whether you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes to invest in your training Lisa can show you how to use it to your advantage.
Actual life update to follow soon - I realize I owe one, since it's been a few months...
