Last weekend a rather large group of us took to the streets to dance for the Dykes on Bikes while they were preparing to lead out the Pride Parade. FCBD hosted the event, while Lucie of Red Lotus handled all the details and generally herded us through the day. With an open call for anyone familiar with ATS or with any musical skill to join us, we took over a large chunk of Market Street with 20 odd dancers, 3 drummers and an army of finger cymbals. (Slow connection warning: lots of pics, and they're fairly big - otherwise they're kinda hard to see.)
Most of the crew - we had a few latecomers. We began with Lucie leading us out into the intersection to form a circle.
Opening prayer, complete with paparazzi. I understand that being up close is great for shooting, but when you're in range for being hit when the dancer turns, I think you need to back off a little.
After the prayer, we broke up into small groups to do improv, switching up partners as we felt like it.
After dancing on our own for a while, Lucie rounded us up to parade past the bikes and dance behind their ranks for a bit. More small group action ensued.
Processing back along the bikes.
Final bow.
Jamming with the musicians off the street.
Martha, Ursula and I after.
Jason and I. He was nice enough to come along with me early in the am and snap all these photos. We stuck around after and watched most of the parade - pics from that to follow.
