As you know, Lynn believes a whole bunch of things about her past that aren't the case. She isn't lying on purpose when she says that she deliberately kept the kids three years younger than her kids because she lost track of the truth and remembers the past wrong. The same thing is about to happen in the next few weeks and take about three years to take full effect: removing Anne Nichols and her family as an active force in the strip.
The reason I mention this is that I remember how Lynn remembers things happening. She remembers just sort of dropping all of the Nichols because she can't bear to look back at her first divorce but that's not the case. Their evaporation is a lot slower and happens in stages. The first stage has little to do with Anne herself and a lot to do with her children. Over the course of the next few years, Christopher and Richard appear to follow Molly and Gayle into the void because Lynn had gotten the brainstorm of having Liz date someone who was a clone of John: Anthony. Only after he appeared could they disappear and set the stage for what really drove a wedge between Elly and Anne: Anne's getting a job and thus not being around to dump April on. Since Elly doesn't want to say "I don't like you because you don't drop everything for me!!", she tells herself a face-saving lie about how she can't stand it that Anne seemed to forgive Steve. This is akin to the face-saving lie Lynn tells about sudden embargoes.
