i followed that thread and it turns out the livejournal team called the police and she's in a hospital now.
that sort of stuff has always gone on, only now people journal it and it's no longer deniable. there are probably people we pass on the street, buy food from, & get irritated with during high-traffic times that are just as disturbed. But what i'm curious about is if since people post their thoughts on public forums is the public obligated to help when it's obvious there are some life-threatening things going on? obviously livejournal tried, but in general, when someone tells you they're anorexic or suicidal one's inclination is usually to help them. Should this same concern apply even to people you don't come in contact with? Who probably don't care? or is it wrong to assume they wouldn't care?
