Yes, it's golden time. It's billed as a "do what you like" time, but the options are heavily curtailed. They typically include watching a film, a craft activity, or reading. There's also a capacity limit on each of those, so more than once **TODO has been in floods of tears all weekend because he couldn't do what he wanted to in golden time.

There's a scheme whereby one earns or loses golden time for good or bad behaviour. It's not entirely transparent to me how such time is earned and lost, and whether it is on an individual, class or year group basis. I'm not sure whether **TODO is bad at explaining it to me because he has a child's inability to believe that I really don't know stuff that's obvious to him, or because it's not transparent to the kids either, to allow more flexibility in application for the teachers. I suspect it is used as time for catching up with marking, lesson plans and other paperwork, partially dependent on how they've done with curriculum that week.

At least, I hope it's used for that, because otherwise it seems pretty hard to justify.
