Obvious cognitive errors

Jan 13, 2015 21:24

I'm interested in fallacies and cognitive biases and all that sort of thing. Sometimes I wonder whether knowing about, say, the Fundamental Attribution Error makes it easier to avoid or not. One particular concern is the effect (whose name I've forgotten) where you tell people something, then tell them it's false, then wait a while and ask them ... and they say they think it's true.

Today, a colleague of mine, who is in her 30s, told me that she used to work in a bank. Her name isn't Linda but it is sort-of similar. It turns that knowing about the conjunction fallacy means that no matter how I try, I can't now shake the idea that she is therefore likely to be active in the feminist movement.
