The Age Of Dentistry

Feb 02, 2006 14:51

So I finally went to my new dentist, and as it turned out they were quite attractive, if not hugely good-looking in a stereotypical way.* He certainly seemed a very good dentist in so far as I could judge. He seemed to listen to me and be genuinely interested in my teeth-cleaning regime and offered advice that was much more helpful than the previous "Well you really should floss daily" I've had from previous dentists. (Although he did also strongly imply I should.)

One of the many privileges I have is that my teeth have been almost entirely free of trouble. No fillings, no pain, no troubles with wisdom teeth coming in, nothing. I'm used to dentists congratulating me on how good my teeth are. (This is largely unearned praise IMO: I do brush them well, but I don't think I deserve much credit for inheriting genes for strong teeth and not liking Coke.)

This time, though, he said my teeth, bones and gums were in very good shape "for your age".

I'm not scared or worried about ageing in the slightest, but that did give me a bit of a pause.

* Sadly the appointment was at 2pm, not half an hour later as is more appropriate for the dentist. 2.30 - tooth-hurty - geddit?
