This poem was written circa Season 5 when Lucas worked for House.
WORDS
From a distance I watch her, yearning to tell her the things piling up in my head.
But the very thought of doing such a thing fills me with great dread.
Why can I tell my patients their problems to their face?
But hide what I feel for her in memories which time cannot erase?
I send a PI to do my dirty work for me,
hoping for him to find something on her to connect us easily.
In turn I hope to give him something for her, to open her eyes bright,
as I long for her to see me clearly in a different light.
I walk into her office and see her standing there,
the sunlight casting hues of gold in her beautiful, brown hair.
She lifts her head to look at me with a curious glance.
The sparkle of her eyes hits me hard and leaves me in a trance.
She questions why I'm there and if I wish to cause her pain.
I reach to find my words but am strangled by them...my attempt in vain.
The awkward silence is a bit unnerving but casts an unusual peace.
It is then the words begin to flow like a river from my lips, flowing with great ease.
I confess that I cause her life unwarranted misery,
but that now I'm finding a truth which I know will set us free.
I tell her that I like her and I wish to make amends,
as now I view us more than just colleagues and friends.
I let her know she feels it too, but is just as afraid.
For a relationship with me has many consequences to be paid.
I tell her its a leap of faith but that it'll be worth the chance.
Don't give up on me for I've gathered the courage to come forward and take this stance.
You ask if I need anything and you must know I always do.
Because you're the only one in my darkest hours who can see me through.
I've held my secret for too long and now I must confess,
that each day you're the woman I'm longing to impress.
So, in this moment I ask for you to see this different side,
as I no longer wish to be in pain, misery or hide.
She looks at me speechless but then begins to say...
A buzzer goes off and I'm suddenly awakened by another day.
It was just a dream but the words came so easily in that fantasy.
So vivid, so relaxed setting my restless subconscious free.
For in life I'm not as brave with words as those perceive me to be,
and harbor desires for which she only has the key.
One day soon I'll conquer my fear like a great gladiator.
For now I'll let my words seep through at the hands of my private investigator.
