Last night, I decided to do the unthinkable. I decided that I am going to change the LaCroix last name.

Hear me out for a second though. :P The family was born from a non-ethic group of Sims back in 2006, when I just named people whatever came to mind. When we used them in Omerta, the names were already pretty iconic of the characters, and since I had it in my mind that they would be a Russian family, I've continuously had to make excuses for why my Russian family had a French last name. This became even more complicated when I went from making them half French to full-blooded Russian, and exceedingly more complicated when I made them Russian Jews.

And then I started working on the prequel. You know, the one where I have a group of Russian Jewish gangsters dicking about Chicago like they own the place. Let's look at those last names: Rivkin, Dessler, Bernandt, Grach, and... LaCroix. One of these things is not like the others, and it's driven me crazy for years!

So now comes the process of finding a Russian/Jewish name that has a similar sound to it, and possibly finding an Americanized version of it. They did change their names, after all, before coming to Chicago, since they may have done something silly and highly illegal before they left Cleveland. I will be keeping the Lac/Lak/Lec/Lek sound, though, and will only change it if I find something absolutely perfect.

In terms of first names, there won't be much difference. Vlad will still alternate between Vlad and Vin (he went by Vincent when he first arrived in Chicago, but gradually went back to Vlad the longer he was there. Vin becomes mostly unused by the time of Code of Silence, mostly because all of his old friends in Half Past Midnight are no longer associated with him), Silas will still be Silas. Blair will be changed to either Sophia or Sophie, nicknamed Fi, because Blair suffered the same problem as the last name when I made her into an Omerta character.

I'll keep you guys updated, though.

writing, code of silence, silas, omerta, half past midnight, vlad
