So, I have come to the decision that my needs for RPGs are twofold.
A. Putting foot to ass, gain points/stuff, improve characters, rinse, repeat as needed.
B. Deep, thought provoking Role Playing.
I have also realized just how much effort is required to get both in one session. For me, the effort is not worth it. So what now? Back to Diablo and MUDs? Not likely. I have decided to split my gaming right down the middle. First step, starting new gritty Space Cowboy style game in GURPS. Why GURPS? I want my players to fear combat. I want guns and brawls to be the last resort. GURPS accomplishes this goal. Second step,
lotuspanda and I have been working on a ruleset for a D20 tournament style tactical game. No RP, just G. Basically a framework for a player to manage a party of characters and run them through combat scenarios. Should be fun :)
... Also, add to the log: UT2004 is the cat's pajamas. New round in 5 .. 4 .. 3 .. 2 .. 1
