...to have a nice (and mostly internet free) family Christmas, I thought I'd share at least some of what I've been upto during the past weeks.
One of those things was to go and see a classical ballet performance, an evening with
Jerome Robbins choreographies, to be more precise. What I really wanted to see was
Afternoon of a Faun, which was originally choreographed by the famous Nijinsky and caused quite a scandal in Paris almost 100 years ago. I'm not really into ballet, classical or otherwise (although I wouldn't be able to explain why because I enjoy beauty in almost every way or form) but I ended up having a lot of fun, quite literally. (Btw, Fancy Free was later made into a famous movie, starring Gene Kelly and young Frank Sinatra).
Jerome Robbins on Wikipedia When I talked to some of my colleagues about this, they said that they had wanted to go, too, but on one of those evenings when Vladimir Malakhov would be dancing in Faun. Since I had never heard of him, I googled him for more info, only to find out that *hangs head in shame* he is considered to be one of the best, if not the best dancer of our time, some even say of the century (ie the past 100 years). His performances in New York, for example, are reportedly sold out months in advance. And here, in this city, he lives and works practically on my doorstep, and has been for several years.
YouTube has a lot of
Malakhov related vids, and what I saw and heard has confirmed my opinion that true genius and greatness always come with hard work and humility.
Malakhov on Wikipedia So, next year I will make up for lost time (and so that later I will be able to say 'I saw Malakhov dance') and try to see him dance as often as possible. Also, he is not young anymore, for a classical dancer anyway, so who knows for how long he will still be able to be on stage.
The real reason for this post, though, are two beautiful photos of Malakhov I found and wanted to share: click
here and
here (both NWS, I think).
But (to change the subject) if you are more into cute blond(e)s, check out the pics behind the cut-tag.:-))
Just in case you didn't recognise him: this is Michael Rosenbaum in
Sorority Boys, IMO probably one of the worst movies ever made.:-)) I recorded only a few scenes because I thought some of you would have fun seeing these caps.:-)
And with this I'm off.
flaming_muse, thank you so much for the gingerbread man. :-)
Happy holidays, everyone!
