Corrected for transcription errors made around 1545, this is a map of the east coast of Australia, including Botany Bay, taken from Portuguese charts of 1522, 250 years before Cook.

Portuguese captain Christopher de Mendonca's fleet of four ships set off on a secret journey from Malacca to search for Marco Polo's "Island Of Gold" south of Java. This is apparently the same fleet that lost one ship, allegedly Warrnambool's Mahogany Ship.
