Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

We were in Las Vegas in mid November prior to traveling to Portland for the holidays. During our time there we visited the Red Rock State Park just west of, and abutting, Las Vegas and the Valley of Fire State Park, about 50 miles Northeast of LV.

The rock formations in this park are magical. We're hoping to bring the grandkids here to play in this fairyland environment while their parents play in Las Vegas. I'm not much of a gambler and basically only play to recoup Kathy's losses (wink, wink).

As you can see from the photos, erosion can etch remarkable landscapes when given millions of years.

We stayed in an RV park in North Las Vegas, next to Nellis Air Force Base. While we were here the Thunderbirds had a show so we had fighter jets flying over us, doing amazing gyrations and formations, for several days. It was loud but entertaining.

On our way to Portland we stopped off in Southern California in Bakersfield where we stayed in Orange Grove RV Park. It was really an orange grove so we were able to pick oranges off the trees to help prevent scurvy during our trip. The variety and wonder of the things we're experiencing makes the little annoyances of RV living well worth it.
