Tomorrow is Friday. I am frazzled. I want this week to end so that I can start working toward a couple things. For the sake of remembrance I am going to record some of what went on this week.
First, my Grandmother is in the hospital for open-heart surgery. She is 83 and lying there in that bed she looks absolutely tiny. Somehow she miraculously she is still witty, charming and sweet in the face of the difficulties she is having. I can only hope that I am half the human being that she has been her entire life. I will be holding my breath for her tomorrow and wishing her well with every fiber of my being.
Monday and Tuesday were prior to my Grandmother’s trauma and yet they were filled with drama that I can’t record here. Perhaps Allison will talk about it.
I can say that we have several problems with the rentals that I wish would just go away. Tuesday our section 8 tenants were due for their yearly inspection. I showed up to make sure that there wasn’t a repeat of last year’s confusion. (The inspector listened to these ninnies when they said the bathroom drain was broken. They wrapped a paper towel around it and rather than actually check it out he took their word for it). Of course they weren’t there and we couldn’t do the inspection. So, now they either need to reschedule or go to a hearing down town. I think they will reschedule but I really wish they would just move out. That same building has what seems to be a clogged drain in the basement. I think I am going to rent a power auger and try to ream it out. Fun-fricken-fun.
We also received a couple calls from the neighbors of the Greensburg apartments. Apparently the neighbors don’t like that our tenants leave their porch light on until midnight. So rather than talk to the tenants about it they call us at 11pm at night. Allison discussed it with the tenants and when the tenants left the light on again the neighbors called us yet again complaining. This is when things get even more interesting. In “retaliation” the neighbors decide to block the driveway that they share with the tenants to keep them from parking in the spots we have for them in front of their building. The tenants, being decent people, parked on the street that night in front of the neighbor’s house. This infuriated the neighbor and he began screaming obscenities at the tenants and threatening to call the police. The tenants, being young and inexperienced, took his word for it and moved their car. There are an amazing amount of jerks in this world. Our poor tenants shouldn’t have to put up with this and we shouldn’t have to even think about this child crap. The worst irony is that we own most of the land that the driveway is situated on. However, because of “right of way” laws we probably can’t do anything fun like erect a fence up the center of what they obviously consider their driveway. Even though it irks me, next week I am going to install a motion light so that hopefully everyone can be happy and get on with their lives.
I am working on remodeling my bathroom. There are going to be tons of before and after pictures once I finish. I have one week to do it all before my Birthday/Halloween get together. So far, I have gutted the bathroom and replaced the floor. To add to my stress I have one week left to drywall, install and tile everything. Lord help me. He built the world in a week right? He should be able to handle my bathroom in no time flat.
I am also on a deadline to finish that sign I posted about earlier. It's about half way done and I have until Thursday when it needs to be delivered to the playhouse! Wish me luck!
Oh yeah, tomorrow is my last day at ProTech. I am going to attend a lunch in honor of my going away. I hope I can get all everyone trained to do the bit of my job that needs to be passed along. I guess if they need me I could be subcontracted for $50/hour to come back and consult! I am starting the new position on Halloween. I certainly hope that’s a good omen. It is after all my favorite holiday. Wish me luck.
Tonight we found Alanna a costume. She decided to be a skeleton with a chest piece that pumps blood over a plastic ribcage. To be fair, it was against Allison’s better judgment but I always liked being monsters when I was a child, so I couldn’t say no. It sure was tough finding her a costume. We literally tried on 15 to 20 outfits before we finally found one that fit her right and that she liked. I hope she has fun!
There is actually more to discuss but this is long enough already. I have covered the major points.
Please let everything go smoothly for Nellie tomorrow!
Goodnight.
