Yeah, it's a shift of mental framework, for sure. Drawing on white paper is about defining the shadows. Drawing on black paper is about defining the light. It also photographs better than it looks in person, for some reason, so you might try taking a picture of it to see what the camera eye picks up.

I tried doing this on a mid-tone paper, and had a terrible time, because it turns out I mostly work in mid-tones, with the occasional highlight, lol, and so none of it was really leaping off the page. So that's my next area for improvement! :D

How awesome you are! More excellent use of the light on the dark... Which is really such a perfect choice for both Balinor and Gaius. I love his stance, with his hands out like that - conjuring! Quite masterful. And I love his direct (but not quite) stare, which is so very Gaius. And (as with Balinor's creature) the really beautiful Celtic patterns for the eagle.

Gorgeously done! ♥

Thank you so very much!

I really wanted these two to stand out as a pair, with one being the father and the other the guardian of Merlin, both being magical, and both having their darker sides. And the eagle knotwork... oh my. I spent hours and hours figuring out the body and tail; it went through a really complicated phase before I finally distilled the idea back down to this, lol. So I'm quite pleased to know you like it! :D
