hey, thanks a bunch for your kind words and for giving me a shout-out in your journal..... you've got a HOTSEX icon, which most def wins points in my book!

i guess one thing i worried very much about before posting this essay was that -- despite an "uplifing" ending -- it's fairly depressing throughout -- all that talk of isolation, failure and blah blah blah. the last thing i EVER want is to scare someone away from JET, or teaching in japan. yesyes, it's been hard, like i said. that's life, part of the package, in the job description. but the positive aspects (that i don't mention) have by far outweighed the negative: other jet friends, kindly japanese coworkers, oodles of money, opportunities for travel.... and, oh yeah, YOU'RE LIVING IN JAPAN!!! those have gotta count for something, right? actually, they count for a lot. and the painful memories of my experience pale in comparison to everything good and wonderful that happened.

but let's not forget the students.... who, in reality, aren't THAT bad. the brunt of the essay was a tongue-in-cheek criticism of them. but hey, they're just so easy to make fun of and get a laugh from! the haro girls ARE annoying and cringe-worthy at first, but they mean well with their excitement -- and it's sort of endearing.

i hope you choose jet. there are risks involved, as is with everything else in life. but with a little bit of spunk and patience, i believe it can work for anyone.

hahaha Glad you like the icon! I tacked on an Emily Dickinson quote so it becomes poetic hotsex. ;)

Thanks for the words of encouragement! From everything I've read I know there's no way I'd go through one of the big companies (yikes... every post related to one of those is major drama. So, ah yeah, really hope I can impress JET and am doing everything in my power right now to make my resume look as sterling as possible.

Btw, how long have you been over there and are you thinking about renewing your contract? And the other thing I've been wondering... is it hard to make friends? *imagines getting hired by JET only to live a life of abject loneliness*
