Love and hate as the same emotion? Both require an ounce of care or passion for another. Each is based on a feeling of importance towards that which is loved or hated. The opposite would be indifference without concern for the person. For instance, feeling love, then, would be accompanied by positive feelings, perhaps feelings of admiration, affection, or attraction. Hatred, on the other hand, would be accompanied by negative feelings, like those of jealousy, where one's worth and self-esteem are challenged. The common denominator is the presence of passion, but it is how these emotions are acted upon which are most important. Sometimes, a person will tell you they love you but treat you as if they truly, whole-heartedly hate you.
