John Lennon did a Christmas song. The opening line is "So this is Christmas, and what have you done?" Well, I'm going to take a slightly different tack on that. Only instead of Christmas, it's the summer after my freshman year of college...and what have I learned? I'm not sure. I mean, I don't really think there is one huge thing I learned and could write down as a definitive answer. But it's a bunch of little things that when you add them all up, it's more or less a schematic or a twisted family tree of my freshman year. The song also says "war is over if you want to." That applies to me very well. I won't go into sappy details, but when I take that and apply it to the mistakes and conflicts and hardships that accompany anyone's freshman year, it makes alot of sense to me in a deep way. That the wars of college are over, even as they are happening, if I want them to be. I mean, seriously, what do you learn from a bruised knee? Happy Christmas...
