Times are getting a bit crazier, and calmer. I suppose its reaching a stage before things start to settle down and get in their own groove. A lot of time the swords are made in china or korea.

My grandfather has some authentic katana's he picked up in Okinawa after WWII ended (he was a field surgeon). He has about three of them. They are very nice (not very ornamental, but they were in families for a while, and he knows the history of one of them--killed quite a few people, I hear).

I like the look of the sword you have though, how much was it?!?!

This particular item was 10 dollars, WITH a stand. Can you believe that? I even asked the guy why his swords were so cheap. As you said, it came from China and they have the resources to produce them at such a high rate and in such quantitiy, that the price goes that low. He had Katana'as and Ninja swords as well, all I saw were priced at about 30 bucks.

See now thats too cool, swords with a history. That would be really terrific to have. But what I TRULY want someday is a personally crafted Katana. Even if it takes days to make, as it used to be. Still, I'm not sure if you could find a place like that in Japan anymore, or remotely like that.
