Down to the Old Lookout Gallery for the best of show from the BA (Hons) Photography (Canterbury Christ Church University) - made more stressful by the unexpected bus detour around Margate to pass the Turner Contemporary (although there's no evident stop) to make the extra loop worth it).
I've not seen the full show, but I was generally impressed by most of what was on display. I missed a few names (labels were like luggage labels or (literally) price tickets, and it felt a bit self conscious to have to check). I felt a little on display myself...
The best photos had the air of being part of a story - I didn't note the name of the photographer, but there was a striking picture of a child ballet dancer leaning against a concrete wall on a beach, and more disturbing were Sami Wolton's female corpse in a wood (somewhere between The Black Dahlia and a slasher) and Kevin Webb's bandaged man in hoodie, the dressing soaked in what looks like blood, as if his eyes had been gouged out. The two technically interesting ones to me were nine Polaroids of someone posting a letter by Christopher Seaton and the peeled surface of photos by Kezidh Hughes. Finally, special mention goes to Priscilla Dunne's darkened cinema, very atmospheric.
Meanwhile, I did a bit of reccying and have the locations pinned down for my own exhibition photographs (see ) and took a few more of
