Fairbanks, Alaska. If you haven't guessed already, the real reason I visited last June was to confirm my decision to move there. One can only do so much research about a location before the need arises to actually go there to truly get a feel for it, and what I felt was that yes, I DO want to move there! This is what I'm now doing, although I was initially planning to move in May next year, I decided to push it up to this October. Due to the birth of my sister's twins, I thought it would be the prime time to make my move with little emotional impact since everyone's focused on the babies. Folks will still be sad to see me go, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss most of the things that I'm leaving behind here in Maine, but it's a change that I feel needs to be done to truly move on in life after the death of my father and the whole probate BS that followed. Looking forward, I'm actually really excited about this change…..even though I have no concrete plans as to where I'll stay or work. It's really something that I can't truly make efforts on until I get there. All part of the adventure, right?

I wasn't really aware, but I discovered that it'll take roughly a month to get my stuff moved from Maine to Alaska. I should be getting the final quote and estimate from the moving company this Wednesday. According to the lady I talked to, it would be going by truck across the country to Seattle, making multiple stops along the way to pick up more cargo, where it will be mounted on a barge and shipped up to Anchorage. From there, it will make the trek up to Fairbanks. What's neat with this particular company, Alaska Terminals, is that they offer storage service. Given that I haven't found a place yet, I probably will take advantage of this. With this moving schedule in mind, it appears I'll need to get stuff sorted out and packed much sooner than I anticipated. This is what I've been doing during the weekend, and I get the feeling the next few weeks will be getting pretty crazy as I try to get everything ready.

Man, it's hard to believe how fast it's all happening.
