You know, I don't think I ever appreciated pavement as much as I did this evening. After driving 250km over dirt roads, the last hour of driving on pavement was real relaxing. The Baja's real dirty now, almost looks like a real (but little) truck now.
It was a neat drive though, on rt 88 in Alberta, even if a lot of it was dirt. Very remote areas, a creepy burned out area, got to wade in a river (too cold to go too deep). Even got to see 2 bears too, though they ran off quick when I drove too close (I didn't even know they were bears until they started moving away from the road). Sometimes it's sorta eerie how empty it is... (Kinna was ironic coming over a hill to a huge open empty area right as the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was at the part while they were explaining how the Total Perspective Vortex makes one feel so small and insignificant...)
Since I was in Edmonton, I wandered by the huge mall I remember hearing about as a kid.. I was a bit disappointed at first, when I was walking in it I could easily see the far side down the length of the mall, it seemed like it was the size of other malls I've been in before.. I stopped by one of the side spurs that goes off to the exits, and looked at a map, then saw that the part I was walking in was the exit side spur, and I was finally at the main mall it self.. and it went a loong long long way off to the rest of the mall, and the amusement park, roller coasters, ice rink, water park... it's a huge place. Too bad I was alone, it would have been more fun to hit the bigger roller coasters with someone. I'll have to come back this way some other time..
I'm kinna surprised I keep getting net access this far north, even in a remote town like this they seem to have a fast net, good cable, and good cell coverage..
There was a little park area I found too, but it was a bit eerie since it was completely empty. Nice view of the lake though, I'll get pictures of those up sooner or later.
