Hello, somewhere in my brain neurons fired that hadn’t for a while and stirred my blogging cortical area. Now before some of you fall out of your seats, I did actually go and see ‘Easy A’ and my defence is that it based on the novel ‘the Scarlet Letter’ and also because it made a heap of references to Sylvia Plath [god rest her cynic soul].
Those who have yet to witness this monstrosity it goes something like this: set in an American highschool [aren’t you glad we didn’t have to go to school there?] a girl says she’s slept with someone when she hasn’t, becomes the most talked about girl and the uncool guys find a way to use this and pay her to say she slept with them etc etc. She gets a reputation as a slut and is ostracized even when these things are untrue.
From a societal point of view it’s sad to see that we haven’t yet moved forward as a society yet. There are men out there who equate women to another notch on their bedpost and their mates slap them on the back and usually say something like ‘noice one, was she a good lay’. Its encouraged for men to spread seed like the apocalypse is coming yet if a female so much as says she likes to keep the company of males or doesn’t hide the fact that she prefers their company or admits to liking many at the same time or even make a few mistakes, she’s a SLUT. Yes in BIG capital letters and god forbid if she dresses differently too. Somehow its as if ladies are supposed to not put their feet out of line and conform to societal norms and values. Well I say shove that up your ass society and grow up and don’t even get me started on the rumour mill. I like men its that simple, I have many male friends but that does not equate to having slept with them. I haven’t slept with anyone in a very long time. I have just come out of a painful long relationship and its still hurting so these rumours don’t help. So help you god if you get on my bad side because I am a cynical existential angry non conformist misanthrope that will just turn up under your bedroom window at 3am and blast some heavy metal down your throat… the night before the exam…
As for Easy A I don’t even dress like a whore, I am probably one of the most covered up females in our grade so what’s the deal with this REPUTATION? I haven't even started rumours about myself like she does in the movie. Save yourself the time with the idle gossip, its all lies and maybe you might find some extra time on your hands that you could use to study. Maybe that way med school might become less like highschool and its cliques and more like a postgrad course where mature ppl come together to learn and enjoy something together.
I really hate happy ever after movies, so if you do too, then don’t go see it. There aren’t nice boys that will sweep you off your feet and save the damsel in distress. Its all up to us as individuals to make our lives work and do what we need to get through day by day. And pleases don’t try to convince me otherwise, I’ll believe it if the day ever happens to come when I get swept off my feet and treated like a lady that’s worth something. Yeah right. So leave me alone and leave me to it.
