He watched through the window as she prepared for bed, removing her clothes and setting a book on her bedside table. He should have felt bad for spying on her like this, but he didn’t. Instead, he admired the shapely body in the sensible knickers. When she stepped into her bathroom, he took the opportunity to slip into her bedroom like a thief in the night.
Now wearing a short, blue dressing gown, she entered the bedroom again as she rubbed lotion into her hands.
“All alone on Valentine’s, Granger?”
Startled, she jumped with a small squeal. Before she could get her full bearings, he cast an Incarcerous; the unexpected weight of the heavy ropes around her body caused her to stumble and fall down backwards onto the bed.
Hermione flushed with anger and embarrassment at being caught unaware.
“How did you get in here, Malfoy?” she growled while trying to wrestle out of the binds.
Draco leaned over her closely with one hand on each side of her head. Ignoring her question, he said, “Do you know the story of Cupid, Granger?”
Perplexed, she stopped squirming and stared at him.
“There was a beautiful mortal girl named Psyche,” he continued as he trailed his fingertips along her brow and down her cheek. “The goddess Venus was jealous of her, so she sent her son, Cupid, to shoot the girl with one of his arrows and force her to fall in love with a hideous creature.”
Hermione stared at him confused, but enraptured.
“But Cupid made a mistake,” he said. “When he approached Psyche, he accidentally scratched himself.” Draco looked Hermione directly in the eye. “He fell in love with her and could no longer continue his mission. It changed everything.”
Hermione’s heart pounded violently in her chest. “Why are you telling me this?”
Draco leaned down until his lips were a hairsbreadth from hers and whispered, “Everything’s changed.” She whimpered as his mouth crushed hers. Despite whom he was and the situation she was in, Hermione found herself overwhelmed by his passion and returned the kiss enthusiastically.
The heat of the moment quickly turned cold when she felt his hands creep under her dressing gown.
She pulled back quickly. “What are you doing?!”
“Don’t worry, love. I’m not going to defile you. Just taking a souvenir,” he said. Draco slid her panties down her legs and stuffed them into his pocket.
Hermione flushed deeply, and Draco chuckled.
“Here.“ He placed a bit of parchment in her hand and curled her fingers around it. “Let me leave something for you, too.” He leaned forward again and kissed her temple. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Granger,” he whispered in her ear.
Then, he was gone, the ropes disappearing along with him.
Stunned by what had just happened, Hermione didn’t move for several moments. When the heat of his body had totally dissipated and her breathing was once again normal, she sat up and looked at the parchment in her hands. Carefully, she unfolded it; her mouth went dry when she read it. It was a list of locations of Death Eater safe houses and places where prisoners were being kept.
Draco Malfoy had given her intelligence from the other side; he was changing sides.
Everything had changed.
