A/N:For the prompt cauldron.
Summery:On Halloween, every year, Draco makes healing potions while Hermione tries to get him to come celebrate with her. Every year he refuses.
Hermione finds Draco in his lab chopping ingredients as a cauldron bubbles beside him and sighs,
“I thought you agreed to come with me to the feast this year?” she asks quietly, folding her arms across her chest because she knows this is a lost cause and feels a rush of irritation at him for agreeing in the first place.
“I changed my mind,” Draco responds curtly before throwing a handful or crushed beetles into the cauldron.
“Draco please, this is important to me,” Hermione tries, moving into the room and glancing around for a clue as to what Draco is brewing even if she knows what it will be generally, “You can’t just ignore Halloween considering what it means to magic folk.”
Draco looks up and sneers and Hermione is taken back about ten years to when he was just a bullying school boy, “ I don’t need to celebrate it to feel the importance of this day. I’m practicing magic, isn’t that enough? This feast you’re going to at the Weasleys, what is the point? They don’t want me there and Potter certainly doesn’t want to remember of his parent’s death or the day he was marked. Better to leave it the hell alone.”
For a few moments she stands in the doorway hoping he will say something but nothing is forthcoming. Shaking her head, Hermione heads up the stairs and grabs her cloak. Another Halloween she has to celebrate without him as he stays home and makes healing potions to sooth his guilt. They don’t talk about the real reason he doesn’t celebrate it. It reminds him of what he’d done in the war and all the reasons he could never forgive himself.
